Pupils’ who have a clear idea of what they want to do will be able to create a clear plan of action and benefit from the advice of experienced professionals, current students and apprentices who have been through the application process. Those who are undecided could find the spark of inspiration they need to explore different areas and discover what is suited to them. They will also learn about the many routes into work, from work-based learning, vocational courses and traditional academic courses that lead to each career path, including newer qualifications like degree apprenticeships.

Exhibitors advertise all their current opportunities on our live opportunities board within the venue, helping students to find an apprenticeship, vacancy or work experience more easily. There will be stands offering employability and career advice for students on CV writing, job hunting and preparing for interviews. There will also be fun, hands-on activities available to take part in at exhibitor stands for students to gain an insight into the skills they will learn and develop in job roles.

Schools are welcome to bring large groups and there is no limit to the number of pupils who can attend the event from one school. ‘We have been the prime sponsors of trying to put an event on like this because we know we are void of something like this, of this scale, to bring all the partners together to give great careers advice and guidance to young people in the area. We’ve got to put on events of this scale just to make sure that young people locally across Hull and the Humber know what their opportunities are when they leave school, so they can make the right choices and progress into the correct careers going forward.’

Hull City Council, Exhibitor

‘We’re here to promote all the vacancies we have and all the opportunities we have within the NHS. Everyone thinks it’s just nursing, but there are lots more opportunities within physiotherapy, pathology, there are lots and lots of things. I think it gives them the idea that there are lots of opportunities out there, and it also gives them an idea of what grades they will need and the different routes into the professions’
